People got used that dolphins are kind and good creatures that help people during storms, in bad weather, when people are drowning, etc. But sometimes people use them with military purposes.
Dolphins are used to clear seas of mines and to protect special zones.
The representatives of navy say that there is nothing to worry about, as people take care of dolphins and there is no danger that could threaten these creatures.
The main purpose of dolphins in military forces is to clear the sea of mines. People teach animals not to touch mines they found but to mark them with the help of position buoy.
Dolphins are used in navy of the USA, Russia, and in many other countries of the world. The scientists of the USA say that biological sonar of dolphins is more sensitive than technical sonar that people use to clear the sea of mines.
Dolphins clear the sea before the ships enter the zone of potential danger. There are about 40 dolphins in the navy of the USA. They are taught to find mines and to find objects using the sound. They are also able to find divers that try to get to ports and military ships.
Animal's rights activists were shocked by the new that people use dolphins in military service. According to them dolphins may be hurt and may be killed during clearing the sea of mines, not to mention the enemies-divers' cruel intentions.
During the Vietnam War dolphins were used as soldiers. They were not even soldiers but killers. In other words, their duties were to kill divers. Dolphins killed them either with poisoned stiletto or by taking away their breathers, and sometimes simply pushing them to the surface of the water so that people could shot them.
And after such possibilities of dolphins were discovered the military forces of the Soviet Union started to use dolphins to guard aquatic zones from the enemy. No saboteur could get through these experienced guarders.
But till nowadays there are a lot of people who are against the use of dolphins with military purposes saying that it is cruel.
